It's summer in Toronto and that means a lot of great things, especially for those who love to eat out. It means finally getting to enjoy patio weather after a long, bleak winter. Finally getting to enjoy visits to your neighbourhood ice cream shop because it’s hot enough to really feel like eating ice cream cones again. And finally getting to check out some of the best Toronto restaurants like Ame, Mistura, and Bistro 990 for really, really cheap because it is July and time for SUMMERLICIOUS in Toronto.
,
Summerlicious 2011 runs from July 8 to 24. There are more than 150 restaurants in Toronto offering three-course prix fixe menus (starter, entrée and dessert) for crazy low prices. Lunches range from $15 to $25 and dinners are in the ballpark of $25 to $45, with most being about $35. Obviously beverages, taxes and tip are extra, so how much you imbibe will determine how high your tab goes. But if you and your dining partner keep to the set menu (and tap water) you can experience a full dinner at an upscale dining spot for under $100.
Fixed-Price Menus at Summerlicious Restaurants
Summerlicious in Toronto is very popular for a reason. The restaurants that participate are, quite simply, GREAT. And all over the city. You can head downtown to the Rosewater Supper Club if you feel like being posh, or over to Sassafraz in Yorkville for some fabulous people-watching on the patio. For a taste of Quebec in Ontario you can head west to Café du Lac in South Etobicoke for poutine with foie gras cream sauce (yes, that’s right- poutine AND foie gras) that will likely have you driving BACK to South Etobicoke to eat there well after the Summerlicious crowds have gone. Or try out Sotto in the Villageon Spadina for some authentic Italian fare.
Other notable restaurants participating in Summerlicious 2011 include Spice Route on King West, c5 Restaurant at the Royal Ontario Museum and Canoe on Wellington.
Making Reservations at Summerlicious Restaurants
Do you have to make a reservation if you are planning to check out a Summerlicious restaurant? Well you don’t have to but you really should to guarantee yourself a spot. The popularity of this prix fixe promotion means tables fill up fast.
