If you live in Toronto and are craving a new culinary adventure that doesn't involve precious plates of charcuterie, it's time to check out TUM... the Toronto Underground Market. It's a new and exciting monthly event that all the TO foodies are talking about, and the first one kicks off this September.
It's all about the extraordinary talent of Toronto's budding chefs at this food market, which showcases the talents of home cooks in one central location. But it's no amateur hour at TUM. The vendors are talented home cooks passionate about what they create. So even though the food stations are for the most part not manned by professional chefs, the food you will sample is professional quality. The Toronto Underground Market offers aspiring entrepreneurs a place to display their skills and products and a place for food lovers to sample new and exciting things to eat.
Torontonians know well how the city's strict street food regulations keep us from enjoying any street fare that is more exciting than a hot dog. Food aficionados, expect to eat some really delicious stuff at TUM. Gourmet tacos and pizzas, deep-friend quail eggs, pulled pork, Jamaican jerk chicken, grilled cheese sandwiches, sausages, English scotch eggs, the list goes on and on.That's why everyone is so excited about an event where you can get lots of different tastes of delicious stuff in a super-social market environment. TUM's founder Hassel Aviles, who was inspired by San Francisco's Underground Night Market, has organized the first event at the Evergreen Brick Works. All the food is prepared in a regulated commercial kitchen, so the standards for all the food being sold complies with the city's health regulations.
The first Toronto Underground Market takes place on September 24th from 6 to 11pm. The next two take place on Saturday October 22nd and Saturday November 19th. The cost of a ticket is $5. Once you are inside the market, food items range from $2 to $8, but most of the items are under $4.
